From John L. Ghee . . .Mrs. Nellie B. King, I recently visited your website and read your data. Not only was I impressed with the information but became excited for our Church that you are willing to avail yourself to us as the “servant leader” for our Women’s Missionary Council. I truly believe you are the person for this season.
I observed you closely as our New York/Washington Region Missionary President for the eight years you served there. The kind of admirable traits you demonstrated as leader then will, in my opinion, rejuvenate to the positive benefit of the Council. What were those traits? I saw in your leadership an undying loyalty to the Lord and his work, the tireless effort you spent developing an organization that stood upon God’s salvation plan pulling together people, concept and programs that built up the “Missionary March,” enhanced Scholarships for our children, and promoted the missionary calling of the church. Your commitment and dedication to our God, the C.M.E. Church and the Regional Missionary Society, including its supported organizations (i.e. Mattie E. Coleman and Rossie T. Hollis Circles) as its leader was always visible. Your passion for the missionary work and the fearless manner in which you presented ideas and challenges along with your horned and capable leadership skills made it so easy to see, understand and follow your stated mission. You always had and articulated an effective plan for achieving the tasks and goals set before you. You were a leader that truly inspired and motivated our people to do the right thing because it was the right thing to do. I applaud you for the leadership you have already provided our church in so many different venues over the last several decades and I am proud for our church that you are willing to continue giving yourself for the strengthening of our Zion. God be with you! John L. Ghee Presiding Elder (Retired) Philadelphia District 7th Episcopal District |
Presiding Elder Frederick & Deloris Belcher . . .Mrs. Nellie B. King, a woman for all seasons. In my opinion one of God’s finest. I have observed this woman for over thirty years in our Zion, as being a mover and a spiritual shaker in her effort to do Kingdom Building. She has been the kind of person that is about more than just talking about things that needs to be done, she brings about results. I have witnessed her efforts as a Missionary President in her local church, District Missionary President and Annual Conference Missionary President. She’s one who is strong in her conviction of excellence to the tasks placed before her.
Within the body of the Missionary Society there is participation from a variety of backgrounds, there was often conflicts and occasionally confrontations. While setting limits, Nellie managed to respond consistently with respect and compassion. The experience had a profound effect on the participants and because of Nellie’s exceptional skills and professionalism, she has been invited by many schools, sororities and other boards in our Zion to do workshops. When I became the Presiding Elder it dawned on me that I have this “gem” of a talent within my District, I immediately commissioned her to do workshops for the District. During the time I’ve known Nellie she has distinguished herself as a coconscious an energetic pioneer in the field of missionary work. I have enormous respect for her teaching and leadership skills. It has been my pleasure to have worked with her on many occasions on the District and Annual Conference level. Finally I have the greatest admiration for her work, so much so that I can confidently say she has the professional capability, compassion, energy, and excellence to bring the Missionary Society to a level it’s never seen before on a global basis. |
Freddie McKnight . . .Sis. Nellie B. King:
I met you about 25 years ago. You have been a mentor to me. I have observed you as a true strong layman in the CME Church down through the years. You have held many positions in the community and throughout the Connectional Church. God has found favor in you. You have offered your services as a candidate for President of the Women’s Missionary Council Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. I believe God has truly equipped you for this new venture that you are undertaking. Continue to let God direct your path as Psalm 9 states: "I will praise You, O Lord with my whole heart. I will show forth all Your marvelous works." May God Bless you on your new journey. Freddie McKnight Lay Treasurer of the New York/Washington Region. |
